چکیده

Some biochemical activities in embryo or seedling of germinating rice (Oryza Sativa L.) seed were studied to explain the effects of suboptimum (20 C), optimum (30 C), and supraoptimum (40 C) temperatures on seed germination and seedling growth. It was observed that 40 C slightly speeded up seed germination but severely inhibited the growth of young seedlings, 30 C delayed germination compared to 40 C, but resulted in the highest seedling growth rate, and 20 C delayed seed germination the most and reduced seedling growth rate to the lowest. Biochemical activities, DNA, RNA and protein synthesis were traced by the incorporation of H-thymidine, H-uridine and S-methionine, respectively, and metabolic activities as quantified by enzymatic activities were determined at 16, 40, and 64 hours of

Genome-Wide Analysis of the Complex Transcriptional Networks of Rice Developing Seeds

BACKGROUND The development of rice (Oryza sativa) seed is closely associated with assimilates storage and plant yield, and is fine controlled by complex regulatory networks. Exhaustive transcriptome analysis of developing rice embryo and endosperm will help to characterize the genes possibly involved in the regulation of seed development and provide clues of yield and quality improvement. PRI...

The SnRK1A protein kinase plays a key role in sugar signaling during germination and seedling growth of rice.

Sugars repress alpha-amylase expression in germinating embryos and cell cultures of rice (Oryza sativa) through a sugar response complex (SRC) in alpha-amylase gene promoters and its interacting transcription factor MYBS1. The Snf1 protein kinase is required for the derepression of glucose-repressible genes in yeast. In this study, we explored the role of the yeast Snf1 ortholog in rice, SnRK1,...

Reactive Oxygen Species Generated by NADPH Oxidases Promote Radicle Protrusion and Root Elongation during Rice Seed Germination

Seed germination is a complicated biological process that requires regulation through various enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms. Although it has been recognized that reactive oxygen species (ROS) regulate radicle emergence and root elongation in a non-enzymatic manner during dicot seed germination, the role of ROS in monocot seed germination remains unknown. NADPH oxidases (NOXs) are the m...

Genetic Analysis of Lettuce Seed Thermoinhibition

Seed thermoinhibition (inhibition of germination at warm temperatures) can reduce seedling emergence and stand establishment of cultivated lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) when soil temperatures are warm (>25°C) at planting. Genetic variation for high temperature germination tolerance exists among accessions of lettuce and related wild species. Seeds of a L. serriola accession (UC96US23) germinated ...

Comparison of globulin mobilization and cysteine proteinases in embryonic axes and cotyledons during germination and seedling growth of vetch (Vicia sativa L.).

Vicilin and legumin, the storage globulins of mature dry vetch (Vicia sativa L.) seeds, are found in protein bodies which are present not only in the cotyledons, but also in the radicle, axis and shoot (together, for reasons of simplicity, here called axis). When at 24 h after the start of imbibition (hai) the radicle breaks through the seed coat a major part of the globulins in the axis has al...
